The last year has stretched many of us in different ways. It has taken us out of our comfort zones and required us to pause, reflect, and show up more presently and intentionally with ourselves and the people around us. It is extremely important to consistently cater to ourselves and fill our own cup so that we can operate at our highest for ourselves and those we love. Here are seven tips on self love to keep your energy and vibration high.
- Spa Treatment. Whether it’s having our hair styled, lashes done, a mani/pedi, a facial or a massage, getting pampered has a way of making us feel amazing. If you treat yourself to one or more of these options, you will for sure feel a difference in your energy. (Money Saving Tip: If you don’t want to blow your budget, research products and tutorials and make it happen at home!)
- Tap Into a Passion. Play! Imagine! Create! Think back to what you loved during childhood and get back into it. We have the opportunity to feel the marvel of our younger selves again in those moments and it could really provide an outlet and an escape from stress. If you loved art, pull out your paintbrushes and make magic. If you loved sports, find a team or trainer in your area, or practice solo. If you were into a musical instrument, pick it back up and play again. The feeling is so nostalgic and you’ll be surprised at how much you’ve retained over time.
- Try Something New. I unexpectedly got into acting in April of this year after being asked to sub in a minor role for someone who couldn’t attend. It turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. I had less than 24 hours to prepare, so I had to show up to set ready to jump in and learn as I went. If you can think back to any experiences in your life that were impromptu, they are probably the times that brought out the best in you (or at least got you to really tap into your inner strength). The adrenaline rush from challenges is euphoric… and the more you do, the more you will build that muscle and gain confidence and self-trust.
- Change Your Wardrobe. How we’re feeling could have a lot to do with what we wear, and vice versa. Do a closet audit and assess what items you wish to keep and which you should let go of. Allow your wardrobe to reflect how you feel about yourself. This will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to present yourself in a new, more aligned way.
- Enhance Your Space. Your home should be your sanctuary. Aspire for every detail of it to feel good. My personal must-haves are flowers, candles, photos, and a super cozy aesthetic. Think about what your priorities are for your personal environment and incorporate them. Make it modern, make it vintage, make it dramatic, make it minimal… whatever your style is, make it you. Pinterest is a perfect place to start for inspiration.
- Create Playlists. Music is powerful in affecting and even creating our moods. Some ideas for playlists are 90s/00s music, songs that get you ready for your day, love songs, spiritual songs, music you can meditate to, and songs that remind you of specific times in your life. Curate your selections and set your vibe <3.
- Write Personal Affirmations. Affirmations are one of the best ways to personally develop and pour into yourself. Repeating affirmations helps you transition from who see yourself as currently to who you see yourself becoming. You can start by writing “I am…” statements and keeping them at hand to recite as you need to, at least daily. Examples of affirmations can be found here.
The pandemic has come with changes and challenges, but one thing gained was the time it allowed to get creative, try new things and make space for additions to our routines.
